Grevemberg House
A National Register property, this home (circa
1851) was meticulously restored by the St. Mary
Landmarks Society. This is a sure win for
antique lovers! It is a off Hwy. 322 at 407
Sterling Rd. and is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4
p.m., except on designated holidays.
10:00 - 12:00 Walking Tour of Main Street
Historic District
Listed on the National Register of Historic
Places since 1982, this three-quarter-mile-long
district boast of 420 noteworthy structures.
This area is comprised of the original
mid-nineteenth century town which grew to
parallel the left bank of the Bayou Teche and
the more densely built railroad town which
developed during the late nineteenth and early
twentieth centuries.
Visit Franklin's City Hall, circa 1908, which
was once an old school converted into the epicenter
for local government activities. It located next
to the library at 300 Iberia St.
12:00 - 1:00 Lunch
Enjoy lunch at one of Franklin's many
downtown restaurants, which range
from fine Cajun and Creole dining to ambient
cafes. There is something to please everyone's
taste.
1:00 - 2:00 Promenade along Bayou Teche
Lounge at the decks along the Bayou Teche on
Teche Dr. This tranquil spot attracts tourists
and fisherman alike. The boat dock is nearby, if
you'd like to explore Franklin's most beloved
waterway. You can start at Young-Sanders Center
Foundation on Commercial St., walk along the
decks of the bayou, cross the bridge, and relax
for a quiet respite at the Peace Memorial near
Eastwood.
2:00 - 4:00 Optional Afternoon Touring:
Get a nice gift at any of the specialty
shops on Main Street. Take a church tour on Main
St. by visiting Asbury Methodist Church, Church
of Assumption, and First United Methodist
Church. Don't miss St. Mary's Episcopal Church
on Second St. Visit the Peace Memorial near
Eastwood and the Young-Sanders Center Foundation
showcasing Civil War memorabilia.
