Oneal Chube Street to Be Dedicated
At 1 p.m. on January 14, Fourth Street will become Oneal Chube Street in honor of Oneal Leon Chube, Jr. who was a respected educator, administrator, mentor and football coach in Franklin.  Former students and friends are asked to come to the corner of Fourth and Willow Streets for the dedication.  A reception will follow the ceremony in the cafeteria of Franklin Junior High School.

The Franklin Fire and Police Departments are having a benefit gumbo Sunday, January 22, 2012, for Toddy Boudreaux and Larry Bowles to defray medical costs.  You will receive chicken and sausage gumbo over rice for your donation.

Holiday Food Drive
The Franklin Fire Dept. is sponsoring a holiday food drive, which will end Dec. 19, to provide food baskets for the elderly and needy during Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Donations of food and money should be brought to 512 First St. from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  A turkey or ham will be purchased with the monetary donations.  When you donate at least four items, you will receive a free fire extinguisher (limit of two).

Classic Christmas Movies
The Teche Theatre will present classic Christmas movies Dec. 17 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 18 at 2:30 p.m. free of charge.  Go and enjoy hot chocolate and fresh popcorn while you watch the movies.

A Light of Hope Observance

The St. Mary Parish MADD Chapter, Red Ribbon Committee and the St. Mary Parish Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition will hold their "A Light of Hope Observance" on Dec. 15 at 6 p.m. at the Teche Theatre.    The organizers will recognize the "Top Cop" in the fight against drunk and drugged drivers and will honor and memorialize those whose lives have been changed because of impaired motorists.

Franklin Christmas Parade and Lamp-Lighting Ceremony
The City of Franklin will host its Christmas Parade and Lamp-Lighting Ceremony on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011.  Line-up begins at 5:30 p.m. on the corner of Jackson and Main, and the parade begins at 6:00 p.m.  The lamp-lighting ceremony will begin once the parade reaches the Courthouse Square.  All residents, schools, community organizations, church societies, fraternities, sororities, veterans associations and nonprofit organizations are encouraged to participate.  Golf cart owners are encouraged to register and decorate their carts and drive them in the parade.
